Bergues : October 2012
A year ago, we did a paper analyzing French society. Along with a couple of chapters from different books required to read before doing the paper was a movie entitled Bienvenue Chez Les Ch’tis.
This movie gained so much success in France. Briefly, it’s about a man working for La Poste (Post Office) living in Southern France and was relocated in Northern France. I love this movie ! I can no longer recall how many times I’ve seen it !By chance my boyfriend happens to be a ch’ti ! He knows how much I love the movie (and because I asked him to take me there) so he drove me all the way to Bergues, where they shot the film !
Bergues is part of the region Nord-Pas-De-Calais and is about a 30-40 minutes away from Valenciennes by car.
Here I am just in front of the famous beffroi (belfry) and actually on the grande place (plaza) where most of the scenes took place.
Of course since la poste played a big role on the movie, I wouldn’t miss taking a photo of it !
And the small lake that the characters Antoine and Philippe took a number on after delivering mails.
Bergues is a really small, quiet and cozy town. And being there on a Sunday just makes it seem more eerie ! But it doesn’t matter since I’m a fan of small towns. Bienvenue chez les ch’tis !
