What French Women Know by Debra Ollivier
For 2014, my GoodReads reading challenge is to finish 30 books for the whole year. This was more do-able since the previous year, I really did not have the luxury of time nor reason to read any other books beyond my thesis topic + other requirements for school. I have been unemployed for a couple of months after graduation and before being hired so I did have ample time to catch up.
At the last quarter of 2014, though, I had to slow down for a while since work was really a drag and I did not have any energy left to stay up for a couple of minutes to even read a few pages right after nine hours in the office.I resigned from my current work and so my workload has gone lighter. I managed to finish reading my 20th book from the list and I'm on to my 21st - What French Women Know About Love, Sex and Other Matters of the Heart and Mind by Debra Ollivier. I won't go into detail on what the book is about since you can get access to that information from GoodReads and I'm pretty sure I could not come up with a better summary or review other than what has already been done.I am currently enjoying chapter two of the book so I still can't quite comment on how the entire book is. I do have a premature comment though. The first few parts of the book tackles how French women embrace ambiguity although this is contrary to what I have experienced and observed first hand from my exposure to both my stay there and working environment. In any case, I think the author made this point in the area of love and socializing and not necessarily when it comes to professional contact. In school or in the office, they can really be upfront about things and direct, very efficient, not a single vague or gray area.It may be that or my experience was/is not enough for me to agree or disagree. Nevertheless, I still have 70% of the book ahead of me. Let's see what we can come across next!
