Quick Stop at Caen : November 2015
On my way back to Rouen from Mont Saint Michel, I had more than an hour to kill waiting for my connecting train in the city of Caen.
Caen was a city that always intrigued me because I often come across its name in French grammar textbooks. So I went to explore the city.
One hour was not enough to discover what Caen had to offer. Nevertheless, an hour visit to the château (in the middle of the busy city!!) was not so bad. It's accessible by tram from the train station. If I had the leisure to visit, I'd do it by foot (like I would usually do). But for this visit, 1,80 EUR a tram ticket valid for an hour wouldn't hurt to get me to and from the center faster.
Within the walls of the castle are three museums you can visit. You just need one single pass for all three ! Limited with time, I only had the chance to visit one - le Musée de Normandie. I found the old currencies they used during the time of the Gauls and some traditional Normand costumes, too !
Caen is the capital of the Basse-Normandie (lower Normandy) region and is accessible by train from Paris Saint Lazare.
