When life changes hastily, reorganize your kitchen
September 1 was both eventful and not. It was when I officially left my old job, where I stayed for more than a year. It was the same day I was returning to my previous career, though not quite because, as I will learn much later, every task came last minute – four days later. But on the first of September, I was at a crossroads. Add into the mix that I was still hung up on my trip to Brazil two weeks earlier.
It was then, during this seemingly quiet day of transition, the calm before the storm, that I decided to do another revamp as if the life changes weren’t enough. But it was something I could control. I could see points A and B – where they began and where it was ending in a matter of minutes. And as I condense an hour of that day into five minutes, I’m left with satisfaction. All this to say, I decided to rearrange some items in my kitchen.
In a rapidly changing life, I seek pockets of time like this to slow down and embrace the mundane. It’s been a while since I could stay in, be domesticated, and not try to chase adventure. It is a mini adventure in itself, at least for me. Will I like the outcome? Will I not? It might not be as dare-devil as driving into the unknown, hiking 40 minutes to see a stunning waterfall, or learning ways to address issues in school enrollment. However, any change, no matter how pathetic it sounds, can still be exciting or, at the very least, intriguing. And for a moment, instead of (over)thinking and (over)doing, I just was. I just am.
