Do I look like a Pacific Islander?

Happy St. Benedict’s Feast Day !

Today I met Medina, a girl from Azerbaijan. She’s a pleasant woman. I also met Litza (?) from Cyprus who was amused of my Greek name.

I got through today’s session. Would you believe that tomorrow is my last day ?

I went away to be away from everything that was all too familiar. I am uneasy with change, with unfamiliarity but I like how anonymous I can be in this kind of environment.

This noon, as I was speaking with Benoit, I went around the old town. I bought Dad’s, Charlie’s and Allie’s presents - at least that’s done. I went to the bookstore to see if they have the Approche Integrée book which they didn’t. And then I went to stop by this small eatery and had my crêpe before going to the post office.

As I approach the post office and await its afternoon opening, a woman smiled at me and as I get nearer, she asked if I were from Tahiti. This is the second time someone mistook me as a Pacific Islander (not that I’m taking it as an offensive remark)!

The post office opened after lunch break and I was able to buy my stamps and mail the postcards. I managed to squeeze in Benoit’s postcard because he apparently wants to receive one, too. So cute how clingy he can get.

Before I headed back home, I went to Fragonard and decided to buy a room scent for my sister and her husband. But then this Jasmine scented cologne captured me and made me make a selfish, impulsive buy.

I went back to my dorm to do laundry, try to organize my luggage. For some reason, I can’t get everything to fit! I’d have to see again tomorrow if I can work around my stuff. I should have fewer stuff now because I get to unload Jethro’s stuff despite a few purchase. I’m happy I also get to write on my notebook with the artifacts I managed to keep and collect. But writing with a pen surprisingly makes my hand feel tired.

For dinner, I met with J, S and P at Leopard. I still have no appetite and got only excited with the fruits and the ice cream. I had so many glasses of water. I don’t know if it’s the heat or my changing diet.

We hung out at Liberation again to watch the Capoiera group. Along the way, we saw and heard the Algerians honk their horns to celebrate their win in some football game very few people knew about. Also, as the night got deeper, some pompiers (firemen) approached us (more like our gay friends) to invite us to the Bal de Pompiers.

On the way back, I phoned B and got news about his new specs. I took off my make up, brushed my teeth and now am ready to go to bed!

Oh and RIP to my Sunnies sunglasses.

NICE, THE THIRD TIME AROUND

The second and last time I was in Nice was in August of 2015. Since then, I have not thought nor planned about going back anytime soon. So when I was granted a free two-week training in Nice in summer of 2019, I grabbed the opportunity right away. I was hesitant at first because my plans (not to mention budget allocation) was set entirely for one month in Lithuania. Even with a generous scholarship, going to both France and Lithuania for summer would mean going beyond the budget. Fortunately, certain circumstances made it possible. And so I was off to France for two weeks before I left for Lithuania for a month.

This entry is an excerpt of a one-week-and-a-half-worth of notes I managed to document at the end of every day.
