Moules-frites, coffee and gelato

Some highlights of the day:

  • I met a Portuguese girl, Clara, for the second module.

  • I’m still bored but just powering through.

  • I get to speak to Sophie again, a French lady teaching in Sweden, to whom I already spoke to last week.

After training, I went home, prepared my tuna sandwich, had my yogurt, had siesta and watched a Netflix series about Russia’s Czars. After the siesta, decided to step out. I got off at Cathédrale Vielle Ville and walked through the streets of the old town in search for postcards. I came across Fennochio in Place Rossetti to finally try the lavender-flavored Gelato.

While walking the streets of the old town, I got a call from Jethro inviting me for dinner over unlimited moules frites (mussels & fries) at Le Garnier in Gambetta. Along the way, I saw the construction for the extension of the Tram Line 2 in the east side. After a while, I settled in Café du Port and had an awful Ice(d) Coffee for 4,5 EUR which is clearly not worth my money. I got to write my post cards (I have to post them tomorrow) and thought about why I didn’t think about going to Corsica (60~ EUR a trip). Then, I walked through those seats I’ve longed wanted to hang out to read. I stayed for a good ten minutes but the sun was too unbearable.

I walked through the gates of the old town and got a green smoothie and a bottle of water (which didn’t seem to be included in the receipt). I caught the tram from Opéra Vielle Ville down to Libération and settled on a park bench near the grandmas. Seeing as they were forming a group, I left my seat and settled for a bench in front of the carrousel.

Gare du Sud

Gare du Sud

I learned that Sophie was in Starbucks all along. We then walked our way to the restaurant and joined Jethro. The serving was huge! Then we walked to see Gare du sud which I’ve never heard of, ever! I thought I knew just about everything there is to know around Nice (from my six-month stay in 2012) but boy, I was wrong. It was quite an adventure, we had some laughs. We got gelato in near Gare Thiers/Liberation and settled on the steps in front of a group practicing Capoiera. It was nice to join friends in the evening.

NICE, THE THIRD TIME AROUND

The second and last time I was in Nice was in August of 2015. Since then, I have not thought nor planned about going back anytime soon. So when I was granted a free two-week training in Nice in summer of 2019, I grabbed the opportunity right away. I was hesitant at first because my plans (not to mention budget allocation) was set entirely for one month in Lithuania. Even with a generous scholarship, going to both France and Lithuania for summer would mean going beyond the budget. Fortunately, certain circumstances made it possible. And so I was off to France for two weeks before I left for Lithuania for a month.

This entry is an excerpt of a one-week-and-a-half-worth of notes I managed to document at the end of every day.
